Finishing the tasks in to-do list makes you feel satisfied and proud of yourself, right?

But a Not-to-do list will make you feel even more prouder because the tasks that you tick off in this list will seriously shape you into a better person.

It is an amazing way to replace a bad habit, yes, but there is more to it. It doesn’t only consist of tasks that you shouldn’t be doing, it also consists of things you like but do not align you with your future goals.

Warren Buffet [In an interview] asked pilot to write down 25 things that he wanted to do. He repeatedly asked the pilot to strike down 5 things from that list.

Of course, this wasn’t easy!

At the end, Warren advices the pilot that he shouldn’t be going anywhere near the 20 tasks that he striked off and should focus only on the 5 things that he circled at the end. Great lesson, right?

For me, The list should mainly include following things,

  • Actions that lead to Procrastination and Distraction.
  • Tasks that you need to delegate or eliminate.
  • Other people’s responsibility.
  • Things that you do repeatedly unconsciously, such as opening fridge every once in a while, scrolling to the social media etc.
  • Things that are not under your control.

Importance of a Not-to-do List

We all have behaviours and patterns that are unhealthy.

Whether it be the habit of constantly scrolling through newsfeed, procrastinating for hours or taking too much time to complete a simple work.

These habits are so recurring that they have become our secondary nature. We do it unconsciously.
