There’s a fine line that separates successful people from failed ones.

When you read the stories of successful people, you’ll realize that they constantly invested their time into the right things and kept moving on despite being called a failure or being mocked.

In short, they put in all the efforts to be successful and never gave up. But why is it that after working towards our goal for a short period of time makes us stop?

Why can’t we stand against the fear of failure and embarrassment the way they did? What is it that makes them so different?

Our brain is continuously thinking and thinking. These thoughts can be very distracting at times. They can make us procrastinate on important tasks or pull us to the darkest point in our life.

And in order to avoid this, we need to regulate our patterns of thinking by choosing the right type of mindset. There are 2 types of mindset,

  • Growth mindset is when a person is open to new ideas and always has room for improvement. They are like ocean with wide horizons.
  • Fixed Mindset is when a person is closed off to new ideas. They are like frogs living inside the well. To them, the world beyond their well doesn’t exist.

Naturally, growth mindset is what pushes you forward in life. It makes you question your belief and perspective every now and then.

I don’t think that the term positivity should be associated only with positive and happy thoughts because forcing ourselves to have positive thoughts all the time tells our subconscious mind that we have a lot of negativity within us, thus amplifying it.

For this reason, I have used the terms (growth mindset and positivity) interchangeably. Enjoy reading!

Feel your emotions, but set a time-frame

Ummm, Set a time-frame…..?
I know it sounds weird but bear with me, okay?

We have all had those days when a single text message or email ruined the entire day or even worse, a week.

This clearly shows how strongly our emotions influence our mindset. If we do not learn to time-manage and manage our emotions in general, we will soon be all over the place.

This is why it is important that we learn how to manage our emotions and possibly time manage them.

You can simply set aside some time from your day to feel your emotions. I prefer doing this by journaling before going to bed.

You don’t have to write 2-3 pages every time you sit to journal. It’s okay if you have only half a page to write. Just go with the flow and find out what figure out what works for you!

Whenever we are stressed or burdened by something, we usually seek the solution in the outside world. When in reality, the answer is within us.

You must have heard some productive people talk about practicing reflection before going to bed. Well, introspection is what they were talking about.

To put it simply, Introspection is about analyzing one’s thinking pattern in a structured way. It is about sitting in a quiet place and observing the thoughts that come to your mind.

In my case, it helped me improve a lot during my spiritual journey. It made me more aware of myself and my surroundings. It helped me love myself more and gave me a better perspective to view this world.

You need to be very careful while practicing introspection. If you are faced with negative thoughts, don’t indulge yourself in them. Rather observe them and let them go. Don’t try to hold on to them.

Also, I won’t recommend this process to everyone because introspection can sometimes turn into rumination.

Times that are spent during this process can be painful yet wonderful for personal growth however, it can turn into a weapon when we are not careful with it.

Positive affirmations

Chanting affirmations is pretty mainstream these days, you must have heard about it. They are encouraging phrases that we chant to achieve our desires and goals. In simple words, it’s wishful thinking.

We have already discussed how our thoughts are capable of influencing our subconscious minds. Affirmations depress the negative voices in our minds, making room for positivity.

It does wonders for people who are under pressure most of the time. In fact, A research article published by a group of researchers explains that,

Spending just a few minutes thinking about your best qualities before a high-pressure meeting can calm your nerves, increase your confidence, and improve your chances of a successful outcomes.

Tip: Affirmations work more efficiently when they are personalized.

Cherish little things

If your body and soul put in so much effort to make life more meaningful, then why let yourself limit happiness to having a dream wedding, acceptance to Ivy Leagues, or landing your dream job?

We are easily carried away by the milestones that we have set for ourselves that we forget to cherish our small successes, which leaves a great impact on us in the long run.

Always practice gratitude and be grateful to the universe for where you are right now. Try to be kind to at least one person in a day. These small habits will stimulate the reward centers in your brain and help you to always stay happy.

Failure is necessary for growth

“Like success, failure is many things to many people. With positive mental attitude, failure is a learning experience, a rung on the ladder, and a plateau at which to get your thoughts in order to prepare to try again.”

W. Clement Stone

When the topic of failure is brought up, the first thought that comes to many is the shame and embarrassment that it brings because we have been using a negative lens to view the world.

People have evolved to fear failure because our brain is designed to stay in the survival mode. If it senses a danger, it releases several hormones to make us avoid it.

Yes, it was essential in the ancient time and sometimes in the modern world too, but most of the time, it is just compelling us to stay in our comfort-zone.

Instead, of considering failure as something evil, just tell yourself that failure is the God’s/Universe’s way of telling that you are moving in the right direction.

They don’t want to give up. They are just giving you the experience that you need to stay on the top of the ladder because achieving success is easier than maintaining that success, if that makes sense.

Focus on the present

For some, moving on from their past seems impossible, especially when they did nothing to deserve it. Yet there are others who have gone through a lot yet they are not bothered much by their past.

It is blissful to stay in the present, away from the worries of the world around us, but at the same time, it can take lots of efforts to reach that point.

To be frank, this process varies from person to person and may differ based on your personal trauma and your mindset.

I don’t think that my words would be enough to help you achieve this feat and this is why I want you to read, The art of now: Six Steps to Living in the Moment.

cut away the toxicity

According to the law of average, We are the average of 5 people we spend most of our time with. They influence our Behavior, Mind and our Output to a significant degree. So, In order to achieve success not only does or efforts matter but our environment as well.

You can be working hard to improve your personality but if you are surrounded with toxicity, you will be dragged down and constantly feel drained.

Hans F. Hansen

Your tribe is supposed to empower you and make you feel confident and happy about yourself. If you feel the opposite then it’s time to reconsider your choices.

Perhaps there might part of you that you say that cutting old friends and family members away is a sign of arrogance and maybe even recklessness but remind yourself that you need to cut them of,

Not because you are superior but because you want to have a better and successful future ahead.

The secret to turning into a great mind is our mindset. Our mind can either ruin or build our life and this why it is important to train it the right way. You achieve this feat by practicing to,

After all, It is important to always remind ourself that, Positive mindset is not a switch that can be turned off and on whenever we wish. It will take time to improve and to bring it into habit.

Whenever you feel like giving up, remember that it is not your success that matters but the struggles that you went through to achieve that success.

Don’t forget to be gentle on yourself!

  1. I’m sorry if this sounds harsh but the checklists did not do justice to this blogpost. I can resonate with everything you said but the checklist quality turned me down.

    • I respect your honesty and yes, even I agree that the checklist I added to this blogpost was pretty shitty. I wrote this post when I was just starting out, hence the quality of checklist.

Hope you would like all my other posts as well. Thank you for stopping by!
